But damn / that last mile is a bitch

Robert Goulet thinking (very hard) --an oxymoron or just embarrassing, you can decide.

"Does there come a time
In a man's life
When
He decides
The Prize is not worth the run
He's given his all and achieved some
But damn
That last mile is a bitch..." From "The Last Mile"

I'm particularly intrigued by his line breaks (see also "Stray"). Arent these just sentences? Really terrible ones? My sister somehow identified the Robert Frost reference in "The Last Mile," in "miles to go." Wow. Goulet echoing Frost. Why hasn't Goulet been hit by lightning yet.
