Gooblar - The War Against Boredom
OK folks, here's the first finished track from the in-progress demo. It doesn't sound like I thought it would sound, but I think I like it. I ended up finding an amp to use (thanks, John!), but recording through the little dot microphone on my ibook doesn't leave a lot of sound options. I may re-record the vocals, but I'm not sure.

Dave, that's fabulous. I wouldn't re-record your vocals; leave as is. I think you've taken the right approach with the home-made demo limitations: make it charming, intimate, fun, etc. The quality of the melody and the lyrics makes up for the limitations of the recording. I also glad you went acoustic-guitar with it... nothing sounds worse than a badly recorded electric guitar.
Oh, the layers of musical fun that could be added...
Thanks for the kind words guys. Jim, by the way, is a friend of mine, a masters student in my department, and a formidable singer-songwriter.
It's great that you both singled out the acoustic guitar, mostly because I do not have an acoustic guitar here. All the guitar on that recording is, in fact, my electric, plugged into a little practice amp.
I like the move to the lower octave for the last words of the first lines of the IInd and IIIrd verses (shakers; worries) -- it sets up the high move to the chorus, "the thing..." nicely.
And, echoing Nish, clever chorus rhymes.
I expected a Gooblar bridge, or a rhythmic variation to counterpoint the verse and chorus guitar parts. But the strength of the song seems to be in the seamlessness of its parts, making a bridge or rhythmic variation counter to your aims.
Very nice! I want to hear more.
